Since we opened our first shop in 1986, our mission has been simple: serve up freshly made food and organic coffee while always doing the right thing. That’s why every bite you enjoy at Pret is handmade in our shop kitchens throughout the day, and anything we don’t sell goes straight to those in need.
Our organic coffee? Always will be. Plus, our Coffee Fund helps support the next generation of farmers, making every sip that much better. And here in South Africa, we’re taking it even further—our shops are proudly sourcing 90% of ingredients locally, the highest across all 700 Pret shops globally!

What makes Pret special? It’s our freshly made food, prepared with care in every shop, every day. What many don’t know is that every Pret shop has a kitchen (or one close by!), where our Team Members lovingly prepare sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more throughout the day (and even overnight for breakfast!).
Even our bakery items—from baguettes and croissants to cookies—are freshly baked in our kitchen ovens multiple times a day. But here’s what makes Pret South Africa even more special: We’re the first in the Pret Global group to source the majority of our ingredients from local suppliers, ensuring the freshest, highest-quality produce while supporting our local economy.

Pret Recipes
Most of our Pret loved recipes are freshly made in our shop kitchens by Pret Team members. No scary machines, no red-faced shouty chefs… and no reason not to try making these delicious recipes at home!
Organic Coffee – Our coffee is 100% organic and always arabica. Our teas, milks and milk alternatives are organic too. We have long-standing relationships with our farmers and take time to train up each and every one of our brilliant Baristas. It’s just much better this way.
The Pret Foundation
Set up by our founders in 1995, The Pret Foundation is a global charity with a clear purpose. To alleviate poverty, hunger and help break the cycle of homelessness by donating our unsold food, partnering with grassroots charities and giving opportunities to those in need of a second chance.
